New Buddhist Vihara ‘Heathrow Viharaya’ Launched in West London
Celebrating the 2600th “Sambuddha Jayanthi”
A new Buddhist Vihara, Athula Dassana International Buddhist Vihara, was auspiciously inaugurated in West London on 7th July to commemorate the 2600th Sambuddha Jayanthi. Located at 153A Sutton Lane, Hounslow TW3 4JW, this sacred establishment aims to serve the spiritual needs of Buddhist devotees in and around West London and across the UK.
A Landmark Spiritual Initiative
The vihara was established under the patronage of Ven. Wanduramba Kassapa Thero, as a branch of the Athula Dassana Vihara in Borella, Sri Lanka, led by Ven. Borella Athula Nayake Thero, the mentor of Ven. Kassapa Thero.
The Vihara’s mission extends beyond religious observances; it seeks to:
- Guide future generations towards a virtuous life through the practice of the Five Precepts.
- Educate children and youth about Sri Lankan customs, traditions, and cultural heritage.
- Offer a spiritual sanctuary for devotees seeking peace, wisdom, and Buddhist teachings.

Inaugural Blessing Ceremony
To mark the vihara’s opening, a benedictory Bodhi Pooja and Dhamma Deshana (Dhamma Sermon) were held on 9th July, bringing together devotees in a profound spiritual gathering.
With its foundation set in Buddhist teachings and community service, Heathrow Viharaya is poised to become a beacon of spiritual guidance, cultural preservation, and community enrichment for years to come.
